Lisbon, March 9th 2022

The Webinar "Reference Case Studies in Renewable Energy - Sao Tome and Principe, Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde", organized by the Lusophone Renewable Energy Association (ALER) in partnership with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Natural Resources (MIRN), the Directorate General of Natural Resources and Energy (DGRNE) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), took place this Wednesday, March 9.

This webinar aimed to present six case studies, available on the ALER website, of projects developed and implemented in communities of these three countries in the area of renewable energy. The objective of its dissemination is to raise awareness of the opportunities arising from the implementation of renewable energy in rural communities and highlight the lessons learned for the future.

One day after the celebration of International Women's Day, the positive impacts of these projects on the lives of women and girls, contributing to their empowerment, are highlighted.

During the opening session of the webinar Gabriel Maquengo, Energy Director of the Directorate General of Natural Resources and Energy (DGRNE) and National Coordinator of the UNIDO project said that "The focus on renewable energy sources and energy efficiency in these 3 sister countries will be essential for an energy transition, which will allow a reduction of external dependence, promoting the use of endogenous resources, the reduction of CO2 emissions and technological innovation, central to the growth and promotion of sustainable development.
